It’s something we have been drooling over for quite some time. A wish list item. This winter, we made the plunge to purchase a Sirona Orthophos XG 3D. What in the world is this, you are probably asking yourself! To put it simply, it is a 3D version of a panoramic X-ray system. And much more! The clarity of a panoramic X-ray that comes from the Sirona machine versus a traditional panoramic X-ray system is unmistakable. We are also able to perform CT scans which is critical in the placement of implants. It allows us to see far more than we would be able to with bitewing X-rays or a traditional panoramic X-ray.The possibllities are endless!
Fun Fact: A CT scan recently completed on an Egyptian mummy revealed that the young man had likely died from a sinus infection brought on by severe dental decay, according to the International Journal of Paleopathology. The images revealed several abscesses and cavities, as well as a linen piece used as packing for the largest cavity. The team concluded that the treatment was “a unique example of dental intervention in ancient Egypt”. -taken from PattersonToday.
