Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

It is estimated that 50 million pounds of toothbrushes make it to landfills each year. It’s hard to get a grasp on just how much that is, but it is equivalent to 2,500 elephants or 111 Statue of Liberties! But what can you do about it? A lot of recycling companies will not even take toothbrushes. Well, here is a list of great ways to recycle and reuse toothbrushes in your own home:

-Scrub your cheese grater
-Get out the silk strands in an ear of corn
-Clean your computer keyboard
-Clean out your baby bottles
-Scrub around your stove burners

A new craze is to make toothbrush bracelets! You simply put a toothbrush in boiling water and when you take it out, shape it however you want. You can get full instructions on HGTV’s website. There are also companies who are making “green” toothbrushes. Preserve toothbrushes are made out of recycled yogurt containers. After you are finished with it (3 months), you mail it back and they will recycle it back into plastic lumber!
